Aeropress Coffee: What it is:

The AeroPress is a simple gadget that was invented about 10 years ago by an engineer, physicist, and Stanford lecturer named Alan Adler.  He was impatient with the difficulty of making just one good cup of coffee in a drip coffee maker, and also with the time it took to do a pour-over, which takes about 4 minutes. He tinkered around and came up with a distinctly non-sexy tool that quickly pressed hot water through the coffee.

The AeroPress Method:

  1. Boil at least 300 mL of water, measure out and grind 20 grams of coffee to a fine to medium fine setting.
  2. Insert a paper or metal filter into the AeroPress’s detachable cap. Wet the filter and cap with hot water to warm up the brewing vessel and remove any paper taste. To rinse the cap, hold it by the flaps and pour the water slowly through the filter.
  3. Put the cap into the AeroPress chamber and add your measured ground coffee. Give the assemblage a couple of taps to level the bed of coffee, then place the AeroPress on top of your drinking vessel and put the whole unit on your scales.
  4. Start your timer and pour about 50 mL of water in a circular motion over the coffee grounds.
  5. Once the timer reached 30 seconds pour in the remaining 150 mL of boiling water and stir the grounds 10 times to agitate. Insert the plunger into the chamber and let the ground steep for a minute.
  6. When the timer reaches 1:30 seconds press down firmly on the plunger until you hear a release of air from the chamber, depressing should take around 30 Seconds If 30 seconds.
  7. Enjoy!

The Aeropress is a piston-style brewer that forces coffee through a thin paper filter directly into a cup.

It brews just a single serving of coffee at a time, but its size and durability make it a favorite device among travelers and campers.
